A Mindful Moment: Slow Down + Tune Into Nature [Mindfulness Activity]

A Mindful Moment: Slow Down + Tune Into Nature [Mindfulness Activity]

For thousands of years, people have been going into nature to seek a connection with something greater than themselves…

Nature is a healing therapeutic tool. It energises, re-inspires and rejuvenates us. It is good for our mind-body wellness. Great for mental well-being.

Connecting with nature is learning how to slow down and be truly present with the natural world. Most of us live our lives busy and a little distracted, it becomes easy to forget how to pause, breathe and become present.

When we are racing around life ticking off our to-do lists we forget to see and appreciate the small wonders in life, for example, the birds, plants, trees and natural settings.

If your mind is cluttered with thoughts about the past or future, or you feel stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed then you won’t be able to experience nature even if it’s right in front of you.

Slowing down is something that needs to be done mindfully and intentionally. It only takes 10 minutes a day. Then once you have mastered these ten minutes you can slowly increase your mindfulness practice to 15 minutes - and so forth.

To practice mindfulness, all you need to do is start by taking a few deep breaths and using all your senses to focus on what is in front of you. The goal is too clear the mind and let go of everything that isn't within the present moment. When you become mindful and present everything becomes different - in a good way.

This mindfulness activity - you can think of it as a little nature meditation. Take 5 or 10 minutes out of your day to focus 100% of your energy on the birds, plants, insects, trees, animals, natural elements in your surroundings.

Go to your local park or sit outside in your garden. If you have no access to nature then use this same mindfulness method to connect with your current environment - it works the same.

This mindfulness activity can be done in as little as 2 or 3 minutes, and it’s the first step towards feeling more connected to nature, your surroundings and yourself.

If we become present within nature and do our best to calm our busy minds we can hear Nature speak to us. It also allows us to look deeper within ourselves. Becoming present within nature is truly transformative - give it a go today!
